About Us

At Vandermere Farm, we are focused on providing horse related services with the highest levels of customer satisfaction & we will do everything we can to meet your expectations. With a variety of offerings to choose from, we're sure you'll be happy working with us. We offer a fun, family oriented farm atmosphere. Jennifer has combined her love of teaching children with her love for horses and animals. Jen has been teaching children for over 20 years and horseback riding since she can remember. She grew up on a farm in Laytonsville, MD and enjoyed fox hunting (with both Goshen and Potomac Hunt) and trail riding with her dad. She participated in both Goshen and Potomac Hunts in MD. She also dabbled in polo with the Potomac Polo Club. 

Jen was a special education teacher for 9 years. Jen has been running horse camps at her farm as the camp director for over 10 years. Jen is a PATH certified registered instructor. She has a qualified staff & volunteers. Volunteer opportunities available.  

Policies: Please park at the barn. Please kindly give 24 hour notice of cancellation. We do not offer refunds but will offer other equestrian services. We hold camp rain or shine and try to ride everyday, but the weather does not always cooperate. There is a no refund policy if the client doesn't show up for a scheduled lesson or event. We do offer military discounts for pony parties, lesson packages, and full day camp sessions for multiple camps or multiple children in the same family. There is a returned check fee of $35.

Lesson attire:

ASTM certified helmet (black for horse show or cover)-Loveville Leather, Tractor Supply, or online

(Hair should be pulled back off of face in a low pony tail)

Comfortable shirt, jacket (dress for weather)

Riding pants or comfortable jeans (full seat breeches preferred-tan color for shows)-no thin stretch pants please for students that walk/trot-W/T/C

Riding boots (no rubber rain boots please as these do not protect the feet)

Horse Show Attire: All riders must wear formal show attire when competing in horse shows. On farm and off farm horse shows are optional.

  • ASTM certified riding helmet or black cover
  • Black riding gloves
  • Brown or black belt
  • Hunter show jacket (Navy blue or black are preferred).
  • Hair must be neat and appropriate for the ring. Pull long hair back off of the face. Hair nets are recommended for girls, but younger riders may choose to braid their hair.
  • Shirts: (Loveville Leather, Stateline Tack, or Dover Saddlery) Girls must wear rat catcher shirts with choker collars and pins. Boys must wear button-down dress shirts with neck ties.
  • Pants: (Loveville Leather, Stateline Tack, or Dover Saddlery) Young Riders may wear tan jodhpurs with garters. Older Riders must wear traditional (tan) colored breeches. Boots: (Loveville Leather, Stateline Tack, or Dover Saddlery)

Young riders may wear short paddock boots. Older riders (age 13+) must wear tall Boots.
